WHS STUDENTS SPENT SUMMER IN CLEVELAND CLINIC RESEARCH FACILITIES
Westlake High School students spent their summer working with caregivers, medical students and physician-researchers as part of the Cleveland Clinic Office of Civic Education Initiatives Summer Internship Program.
The program is a paid nine-week internship that fosters 21st century skills in which students explore science and various health careers through one-on-one mentoring relationships with Cleveland Clinic doctors. The program is designed to increase high school students’ interest and literacy in science by expanding their learning experiences beyond the classroom.
This year the program graduated 170 students from Northeast Ohio, including three WHS students; Deepak Kumar; Wan Kwok; Katelyn Routhier. Click on the student's name or picture to view their video summary.

Lauren Choban (WHS Class of 2012) spent her summer (2011) as a science intern at the Spine Research Laboratory at Lutheran Hospital. The Cleveland Clinic Office of Civic Education Initiatives Summer Internship Program is a paid nine-week program that fosters 21st century skills where students explore science and various health careers through one-on-one mentoring relationships with Cleveland Clinic doctors. Students work with caregivers, medical students and internship alumni.

Andrea DeMarsh (WHS Class of 2012) participated in the Cleveland Clinic science internship during the 2011 summer for nursing at Fairview General Hospital. Her research was titled "Causes of Mother-Infant Separation during Postpartum Stay".
